HOUMA, La. (March 9, 2010) – Ravi Sangisetty, Democratic candidate for Congress in Louisiana’s 3rd Congressional District, responded today to the Obama Administration’s roll out of the Louisiana-Mississippi Gulf Coast Ecosystem Restoration Working Group “Roadmap”.
Sangisetty said, “I’m happy to see that the coastal restoration crisis we face down in South Louisiana is finally becoming a priority for the federal government, attention that is long past due. While it’s a step in the right direction, we need someone in Washington who will make the federal government accountable and end the Army Corps of Engineers’ legacy of all talk, no action. The time for studies and passing the buck is over. We need real solutions and we needed them yesterday.”
Sangisetty continued, “We can increase the beneficial use of dredge materials. We can protect our barrier islands. And we can see Morganza to the Gulf finally realized. It’s amazing to me that we have the political will and engineering know-how to protect our coast and save our vanishing wetlands, but the Corps continues to drag its feet.”
As of December 31, 2009, Sangisetty for Congress has put together more than $250,000 with over $225,000 cash on hand at the close of the reporting period. For more information please go to www.raviforcongress.com.
